Road to Success

On this journey to success, we are always met with obstacles that stand in our way.  How we learn to deal with or overcome these obstacles will determine our success at the end of the road.  We need to get over the bump and fix the situation.  If necessary we might have to choose another road with less construction that will eventually lead us to success or our desired outcome.

When I think of the road that leads my tutor student to success, I admit that there is some construction if not obstruction.  Despite the challenges that we face, together we will get through it by discovering what works and how to best fix or improve the situation/tasks at hand.  The ultimate goal is to reach the end of the road and be successful!

IMPACT, INFECT, KNOWLEDGE

“Knowledge will bring you the opportunity to make a difference.”
-Claire Fagin PhD Educator, Nurse, & Consultant

This is the ultimate goal of education is to strengthen the impact one can make on the world.  We are all doing what we can to progress so that we may have a greater impact on the education on Guam.  The knowledge we have, attained have already made us better educators and guess what? "Learning is ongoing!" We are only getting better at what we do with each day that passes.

You! Yes, you

"You!  Yes, you.  The one reading this.  You are beautiful, talented, amazing, and simply the best at being you.  NEVER FORGET THAT."

Just a little inspiration to all of you.  This thing called our life is busy and fast paced that we tend to forget ourselves or get lost somewhere. I believe that everyone including you are so special.  Sometimes we just need a little reminder of all the wonderful things that we really are.   But I just wanted to give you all a little reminder of that special qualitites that you all have in you.  Have a wonderful day!

"Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were made to do."

"Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were made to do."

As the semester continues, I find that the half way point is always the most difficult for me.  I often ask myself if I was made to do what I am suppose to do.  Am I suppose to be a life long learner?  Am I suppose to be a teacher?  What am I made to do?  However, even though the path is difficult I always have faith in my heart.  So if I believe with all of my heart that I am suppose to do this then I know I was made to do this.  I am a life long learner and a teacher.  I will do what I was made to do.

Small Efforts

As I read this quote, I thought about my student that I am currently tutoring in reading.  For the past sessions we have been REPEATEDLY working on her vocabulary, spelling, fluency and writing skills.  Even with her small efforts in each of the reading activities, she has shown great progress.  As we continue on our journey, she will eventually SUCCEED and reach her goal by the end of the semester!  To all tutors, take a look at the improvements your student has made thus far and know that your continued persistence and perseverance will surely make a difference!

Best Websites for Teaching and Learning

I attended the IRA meeting last month, and they shared this website.

The Best Websites for Teaching and Learning has tools and resources that the American Association of School Librarians promotes.  It supports the AASL' Standards for the 21st-Century Learner.  Although this was directed towards librarians, it is useful for all education professionals.  I hope you find it useful.

Attitude Changes Everything!

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. (Charles R. Swindoll)

I think attitude is important because it makes us who we are.  I emphasize to my students that attitude is important in life.  How we act towards people and experiences will affect us in the future.  I tell them to be cautious of what they say and do.  I tell them to think before they act.  Although, we may encounter the same people and have the same experiences, how we react is different.  So I choose not to let negative experiences affect me.  I choose to let go of the negative and stay positive!
