Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him. Maya Angelou

My mother once told me that if I read one book every day of my life, there is nothing in this world that I will not know about. I owe my mother my love for reading. She was my first ever teacher. She ensured that before I stepped inside the classroom for the first time in my young life, I was already reading and writing. She ingrained in me the value of education. She constantly reminded me that if there is any one thing in this world that can never be taken away from me, it is my education. These she said are legacies I can pass on to my children. As an educator, I would want to pass on what I learned from my mother to the children under my care -- the love of reading and learning. The passion to continue learning no matter what your condition in life,no matter your age.
Sometimes when we look forward to something that we had anticipated for so long, then things don't happen as we had envisioned it, we are disappointed and disheartened. My last session with MC was this way. I felt that all my effort, planning and enthusiasm was dampened by the lack of response from MC. However, I have to pick myself up and believe that tomorrow was another day, and if I let this day bring me down for the rest of the week or the semester, for that matter, I will be failing MC. So I have to believe that next Wednesday, and the Wednesdays after are going to be brighter and MC and I will meet our goals.

Introducing the ED644-02 Super Stars!

Reading Aloud

As a Kindergarten teacher, I read to my students everyday.  I do believe that it is very important in building their reading skills. My student that I tutor also enjoys listening to read alouds. As we reviewed the story, he was able to tell me what happened at the beginning, middle, and ending part. I see a difference from the assessments I gave him last semster. I hope to encourage him to enjoy reading more.

Lesson To Last A Lifetime

“Give a bowl of rice to a man and you will feed him for a day. Teach him how to grow his own rice and you will save his life.”
 Confucius

Life lessons is a way we can ensure the lively hood of each child.  Not only should we educate them on the content, but we should do our best to produce the whole person.  The content will enable them academically but the life lessons will have a lasting effect beyond their career as a student.

Practice Toward Perfection

“I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. In each, it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes shape of achievement, a sense of one's being, a satisfaction of spirit. One becomes, in some area, an athlete of God. Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.”
 Martha Graham

Practice is what we must do to make the necessary steps toward perfection.  For obvious reasons one cannot attain perfection, but the goal is to be become the best possible teacher we can be.  Our practice is the Literacy Clinic and our field is the School Education.  We must work as hard as possible on our field at practice to ensure the best outcome when we travel away.

“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”

“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”   By Will Rogers
Sometimes I feel that I’m moving on the right track in life.  I feel like it just goes by way too fast sometimes.  Then it feels like I’m overwhelmed.   It’s just that there is so much to do in such a limited amount of time.  This is why this quote reminds me to keep on going and doing what I need to do.  I feel that if I don’t do anything it will just run me over.  So I will just keep going and doing what I need to so this won't happen to me.  I'm not going to just sit there, I'm going to keep on going.

Impression

This quote is for the students that we, as tutors, are helping at the Literacy Center to improve their ability to read, comprehend, and write.   The variety of reading and writing activities chosen to meet our students' learning needs will surely make an impression on them.  Our efforts together with our students' efforts, whether big or small, can and will make a difference in the end!  So, let's continue to press and mold, press and mold!!!

Be Positive!

The conscience of children is formed by the influences that surround them; their notions of good and evil are the result of the moral atmosphere they breathe. ~ Jean Paul

Many bad events are happening these days, and our students are being exposed to them.  We need to find ways to encourage students to do good deeds.  Many factors influence a child's words and actions.  As teachers, we need to have a positive attitude towards our students so they can have a positive attitude as well.  Although we aren't the only people in their lives, one person can make a difference.  Be good! Be positive!
